Polished Concrete
Mechanically refined concrete, with lasting character and easier everyday care.
Overview
Where polished concrete belongs
Polished concrete refines the slab you already have through mechanical grinding, densifying, and progressive refinement. Done properly, it produces a durable, low-maintenance surface with a character no coating can imitate.
Results depend on the slab: aggregate exposure, colour, and clarity vary with the concrete that is there. We assess the slab first and explain the achievable exposure and sheen — matte, satin, or higher gloss — before any machine starts.
Typical applications
- Retail floors and showrooms
- Offices and commercial common areas
- Institutional and public facilities
- Light-industrial and warehouse spaces
- Custom and residential interiors
Performance
What we weigh before recommending
- Slab condition, hardness, and existing aggregate
- Desired exposure — cream, salt-and-pepper, or deeper aggregate
- Gloss level — matte, satin, or higher gloss
- Existing cracks, patches, and previous coverings
- Ongoing maintenance commitment
System options
Mechanically polished concrete
Progressive grinding and refinement with densification at the appropriate stage — the sheen comes from the concrete itself, not a topical coating.
Grind-and-seal (related option)
The slab is ground and protected with a topical sealer. It offers a similar look at a different price point, but the protection sits on the surface and wears differently — maintenance and renewal differ from true polishing.
Colour treatment
Optional colour can be applied where specified, before densifying, as part of the agreed process.
Installation
How the work runs

We evaluate hardness, aggregate, flatness, and the desired exposure with you.
Mechanical grinding opens the surface and establishes the chosen exposure.
Suitable surface defects are addressed so they read as character, not damage.
Progressively finer abrasives develop the surface toward the agreed finish.
Optional colour treatment where specified; densifier applied at the appropriate stage for the chosen process.
Suitable stain protection and burnishing where specified, then handover.
Preparation & detailing
- Mechanical grinding is the preparation — and the substance — of polished concrete
- Surface defects are assessed individually; not every patch can be made invisible
Maintenance & return to service
- Routine dust mopping and wet cleaning with suitable cleaners
- Stain protection reduces absorption but no concrete floor is stain-proof — wipe spills promptly
- Periodic burnishing refreshes traffic lanes where specified

Maintenance guide
Keep it looking new.
Polished concrete is one of the easiest floors to keep. Regular cleaning actually keeps refining the shine over time.
| Task | How often |
|---|---|
| Dry dust mop to remove dirt and grit | Daily |
| Auto-scrub with a polished-concrete maintenance pad and a pH-neutral or conditioning cleaner | Daily |
| Clean up spills with clean water or diluted cleaner | Right away |
| Restore dull spots with a restoration pad (several passes), then return to the daily pad | As needed |
| Reapply stain guard when water no longer beads on the surface (water test) | As needed |
Do
- Dust mop before every scrub
- Use an auto-scrubber with good downforce for the best shine
- Do a quick water test now and then to know when the stain guard needs a refresh
Avoid
- Leave water or liquid sitting on the floor
- Use acidic or caustic cleaners
- Clean with steel wool or diamond-impregnated pads
- Apply wax or topical coatings over polished concrete
